Who said only the kitchen gets to smell like gingerbread? The first breath is anise, then comes gingerbread fresh from the oven, with cinnamon and maple syrup dripping down the edges.

Caramel, shortbread and vanilla at the base make the whole house smell like grandma's kitchen in an unhurried December. Light it while you wrap presents, or when guests are on their way and you want them to believe you have been baking all day.
